We’re back from Athens and still feeling the vibes of WordCamp Europe! What an event it was, a gorgeous venue, insightful sessions, hands-on workshops, the coolest crowd, and excellent food. So let’s re-live WordCamp Europe 2023 or – if you couldn’t be there – keep reading to get a taste of the coolest tech event in Athens this year.
WordCamp Europe drew more than 2.800 WordPress enthusiasts from around Europe (and beyond) to the lively city of Athens. From June 8th through June 10th, the Athens Megaron International Conference Center buzzed with WordPress chatter and bustling hallways filled with excited attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers.
Collaborating at Contributor Day
It is a tradition that WordCamp dedicates one day of the event to advancing WordPress, during which participants would collaborate on contributing to the WordPress project.
And for sure, they did! The WordPress community came together to work on different areas of the platform, learn valuable skills, and make a positive impact. Together, they worked on core development, translations, support, hosting, and documentation.Â

Engaging Sessions & Hands-on Workshops
WordCamps are like a buffet of knowledge served up by WordPress connoisseurs from all corners of the world. It’s like a nerdy potluck, except nobody brings potato salad – they bring talks and hands-on workshops on web development, design, SEO, content creation, and community building.Â
And boy, with so many great talks, workshops, and panels running simultaneously, it was hard to pick and choose. But whichever session we visited, we got to listen to great speakers who truly know their WordPress.
Hristo Pandjarov dived into building high-performance headless WordPress systems, explored main issues, and provided practical solutions to avoid or solve them.Â
Marco Berrocal held a great workshop about understanding and using WordPress hooks, explaining what they are, what they are used for, and how to apply them properly. Around 70 attendees had joined his workshop, brought their laptops, and dived right into coding.
A panel discussion around Enterprise WordPress Delivery also piqued our interest, where some of the leading agencies discussed how they deliver WordPress to enterprises globally. After all, WordPress is a consumer software, and many enterprises would prefer an enterprise-targeted solution.Â
A highly anticipated event at every WordCamp is, of course, Matt Mullenweg’s closing words. With WordCamp Europe happening just after WordPress’ 20th Birthday, much of WCEU is dedicated to celebrating this happy occasion — and so was Matt’s talk, Variations on a Theme: 20 Years of WordPress. Together with WordPress’s Executive Director Josepha Haden Chomphosy and MatĂas Ventura, Product Architect at Automattic, he reflected on the past years and brought a couple of amazing WordPress projects to the community’s attention, such as the recently published Openverse, Playground, and Gutenberg. Then he gave the floor to the attendees to answer their questions.
You Are Your Site’s Weakness – WebPros Booth Talk
Contributor Day is a great chance to share knowledge and shape the future of WordPress. However, we went a step further. WebPros starring in SeekaHost Podcast
WebPros’ existing and upcoming WordPress-focused products have raised some interest indeed. That’s why Chief Experience Officer Jesse Asklund and product Manager Andrey Kugaevskiy got invited to join our partner’s SeekaHost podcast live on WordCamp Europe.
